When Davis was 16 he worked in a restaurant after school in Michigan - he made a film about a passionate young dishwasher who must navigate his way through life in a professional kitchen. It was profound and funny. And not very good (it was ok). But it was enough to get him an internship at a small ad agency.
A writer as much as a director, with an acute curiosity and enthusiasm, he finds narrative threads in even the most purely visual concepts, and uses techniques to evoke mood and story. He likes heightened characters and creating worlds for them. Sometimes visual and abstract. Sometimes true to life. Regardless of genre, he likes to find an idea’s journey.
He gravitates towards work that can be challenging to conceptualise but that can also reveal truth and humanity. He likes offbeat humour, fiction with a surreal touch, and dry wit.
